SCP-096 is one out of seven playable SCP classes within SCP: Secret Laboratory.

SCP-079 and SCP-096 can never spawn in the same round.

Operational Guides

Class Operational Guide

A tall, pale humanoid capable of tearing through waves of heavily armed forces. It cries and cries and never seems content.

You wish you could comfort it.

You wish someone had told you to close your eyes.

You wish you knew the danger you were in when the crying finally stopped.

___
“SCP-096 was recently transferred to Site-02, under the supervision of Dr. Daniels. It was the topic for weeks. Since then, SCP-096 has been our primary test subject for Project: Segmentum. Our efforts seem to be in vain. Despite the countless setbacks, Daniels is still adamant about killing the damn thing. For something so shy, it doesn’t have an issue with crying so loudly. You know, there are times where I’d wonder if it actually feels empathy. Would it understand if someone tried to comfort it? That being said, I can’t forget the shrieks of terror and the streaks of blood. Thinking about it makes me sick. I don’t know what was worse; the frantic screams, the shredding of flesh, or the sobbing that followed.”
-Dr. Katelyn Wright, Head of Project: Segmentum

Abilities Operational Guides

- [Passive] — Scopophobia

When a human looks at SCP-096’s face, or injures SCP-096 in any way, it will enter a state of rage. While in rage, SCP-096 moves extremely fast and all humans who viewed its face or damaged SCP-096 will be highlighted for the duration. SCP-096 gains access to additional abilities: Melee Attack and Charge.

___
“The object doesn't want to be looked at, and, as a psychologist, I have to wonder why that is. After some time studying it, I’m beginning to wonder about the possibility this object has some form of latent anxiety about its appearance."

- [M1 Enraged] — Melee Attack

Press the Attack button while in SCP-096’s rage mode to perform a Melee Attack. Hitting a human with a Melee Attack will damage them severely. Hitting a door with Melee Attack will destroy it, rendering it completely unusable.

___
“It attacks with such a degree of violence and hatred. It’s hard not to wonder what lies behind its, supposedly, blank and soulless eyes.”

- [M2 Enraged] — Charge

Activate Charge to send SCP-096 lunging in the direction they’re facing, destroying all doors and damaging all players in their way. Activating Charge on a gate causes SCP-096 to forcefully pry them open and get through.

___
“A common belief is that letting out your negative emotions relieves you of them. However, for the object, I can’t help but think that it only worsens its sorrow.”

- [M2 Docile] — Try Not to Cry

Activate Try Not to Cry while near a vertical surface to lean against it. When leaning against a flat surface, SCP-096 will gradually grow quieter before becoming nearly silent.

___
“My analysis has led me to conclude that SCP-096 possesses a child-like psychological state, acting purely on its desires and emotions. It doesn't have the cognitive ability to process how it feels. Though, of course, prior analysis is purely conjecture. How are we to understand something as bizarre as this with human psychology?”

In Game

SCP-096 spawns in Heavy Containment Zone in its docile state. SCP-096 has a very audible cry that can warn players of its position. SCP-096 acts as an offensive SCP class, meant to disperse groups of people.

Hume Shield

  • SCP-096 has a base Hume Shield value of 600.
  • If SCP-096 takes no damage for 10 seconds, its Hume Shield will regenerate by 15 HS/s.
  • While SCP-096 has Hume Shield, a distortion-like effect can be seen around their body.

Abilities

Scopophobia

The Scopophobia is broken up into four stages, Docile, Distressed, Raging and Calming. SCP-096 starts the match in the Docile Stage.

While Docile, SCP-096 produces an audible crying sound. Hume Shield will regenerate at a rate of 15 HS/s while Docile if SCP-096 has not taken damage for ten seconds. The Try Not To Cry ability can be used while in the Docile Stage.
If a human looks at SCP-096's face or attacks SCP-096, they become a target. For ten seconds after a target is added, SCP-096 can press the R key to enter the Distress Stage. A small icon will appear in the corner while the timer is active. If the timer ends before the key is pressed, all current targets lose their status as a target.

While Distressed, SCP-096's speed is lowered and they lose perception of all non-targets, including their SCP Teammates. SCP-096's vision will slowly gain a red tint during this process. SCP-096 will slowly transition from crying to screaming. After six seconds have passed, they will then enter the Raging Stage.

While Raging, SCP-096 will begin to loudly scream, and is unaffected by the "audio dampening" effect caused by C.A.S.S.I.E. announcements. SCP-096's maximum Hume Shield will be cut to half of its current value, and its regeneration is paused. The Melee and Charge abilities can be used while in the Raging Stage. Pressing the E key on a gate will cause SCP-096 to force the gate to open and slip through. Other SCPs can slip through the gate at the same time, but humans will instantly die if they attempt to, including non targets.
Raging lasts 20 seconds and a meter on screen will slowly deplete to represent the remaining time. Each additional target will add an extra three seconds to this stage, but will never succeed 35 seconds. After the timer ends, SCP-096 will enter the Calming Stage.

While Calming, SCP-096's speed is lowered and their Hume Shield, if not depleted, will be returned to its previous levels. The red screen tint will slowly fade away. This process last only a couple of seconds before SCP-096 re-enters the Docile Stage, where they can immediately gain targets again.

Melee

While in the Raging Stage, the player can perform a melee attack with  Left Click. The attack has a fairly large arc and will deal 85 damage to targets, with non-targets taking no damage at all. The attack is fairly fast and its wide arc makes it able to hit players easily.

Charge

While in the Raging Stage, the player can perform a charge attack with  Right Click. The attack will make SCP-096 charge forward in one direction, with little control to turning. Targets hit by this attack will take 90 damage and receive the Concussed Status Effect for ten seconds. Non-targets hit by Charge will only take 45 damage and receive the effect for four seconds. This ability has a five second cooldown.

Try Not To Cry

While in the Docile Stage, the player can perform the Try Not To Cry ability by pressing  Right Click. It can be performed against any flat surface, and only while SCP-096 is standing on a flat surface.
While this ability is active, SCP-096 crying noise will gradually quiet down before becoming nearly silent.
Holding down  Right Click will greatly increase the speed at which SCP-096 quiets down. Movement is locked while this ability is active. The gradually quieting down effect gives the illusion of SCP-096 walking away.

Trivia

  • SCP-096 has 2 unused animations.
  • A charging SCP-096 is the fastest thing ingame.
    • SCP-096 is also one of the slowest SCPs ingame due to his entering/exiting rage speed only being 2.3 m/s.
  • According to Wavepoole, SCP-096's cry ability was named after the "Lie down, try not to cry, cry a lot" meme.
  • SCP-096 was the 2nd SCP to be reworked, be given new abilites as well as introducing the Hume Shield mechanic.
    • Despite popular belief, reworked SCP-096's enraged speed is slower than old SCP-096. Old SCP-096 had an enraged speed of 12.36 hu/s while reworked has an enraged speed of 12 hu/s. Though, docile speed was increased from 4.7 hu/s to 5 hu/s in the rework.
  • Upon reaching zero HP, SCP-096 will curl up into the ball and lay on the ground for the rest of the round.
